University students will be available as mentors for the teams throughout the event for questions to make sure beginners and experts alike will have the help they need to successfully develop their project. All teams will demo their hacks at the end of the event and winners will be chosen by company mentors.
Participating in UIOWA HSH will give you the opportunity to use new technologies and learn in a friendly and collaborative environment. Experienced mentors will help you make your project the best it can be!

Any high school students are welcome to participate! If you are passionate about programming and are interested in new technologies, we want you to join UIOWAHSH!
Maximum 4 students per team and they don’t have to be from the same school as yours. You may also hack solo if you wish.
Absolutely nothing! Food is on us too!
That's totally ok! Hackathons are a great place to learn. We're going to have tutorials and mentors to support you during the event.
The organizing commitee will browse the demos at the end of the event, asking questions and choosing their favorites.
A great place to start is to ask adults in your community. Many times teachers and parents have ideas for software you can create! You can also look for people who need help with a project on the Facebook Group.
Yes, you may bring additional hardware if you have a project in mind.
It’s a good idea to setup your computer with some development software such as an IDE (i.e. Android Studio, XCode), a version control tool (i.e. Git). You don't want to spend a large chunk of time downloading software at the event, do it beforehand!
No. All work on projects should be done at the event. You can read up on different APIs and frameworks but all code should be written during the UIOWA HSH.
